"ICOs Were a Horrible Investment Opportunity" -- Q&A with Anthony Pompliano

By LongHash

With investors wondering about the state of the cryptocurrency market, LongHash asked Morgan Creek Digital founder and partner Anthony Pompliano to share a few thoughts. We also included select questions submitted by our followers on Twitter.

What advice would you give to someone looking to break into crypto today?

Spend time learning as much as you can. Reach out to people in the industry — it is incredibly collaborative and people are willing to help.

What is one thing you believe that other crypto funds would disagree with you on?

ICOs were a horrible investment opportunity and people/funds should have refrained from investing in most of them.

What is the investment strategy for Morgan Creek going forward, seeing that most tokens will likely die a slow death while the only profitable thing in this market seems to be trading on secondary markets? — @hope_freiheit

We invest in Bitcoin, our passive index fund, and equity in infrastructure companies.

What is the most important/impactful business that will exist in Bitcoin that *isn't* being worked on by anyone right now? — @kristinlow

Tokenizing stocks, bonds, currencies, and commodities on the Bitcoin transaction network.

When will the next economic crash ala 2008 be and will money be poured Into Bitcoin as a safe haven (at what price)? — @woznicki

Not sure when it will occur but bull markets don't last forever. Bitcoin is a non-correlated asset with an asymmetric profile so it should be attractive to investors.

Why aren’t people taking you up on your million dollar bet that crypto can beat the SP 500? How do you address the criticism that investors aren't taking you up on it due to "counterparty risk," i.e. that retail investors might not believe the firm will be around in a decade to pay?

Most detractors don't believe what they are saying. They are unwilling to put their money where their mouth is. There is no counterparty risk because the money is put up beforehand and is not accessible by anyone until the end of the bet. Don't listen to the excuses, watch the money :)

What is the best investment you ever made?

The investment in myself.
